The company chaired by José María Castellano advances in the reinforcement of its corporate governance policies. Thus, after being approved by the Board of Directors, the Shareholders’ Meeting ratifies Greenalia’s Green Book of corporate policies and the Corporate Code of Ethics. Both documents are based on the philosophy that has guided the company since its inception, where the values of sustainability, transparency and ethics have been present since the birth of this business project. Now “we equip ourselves with the necessary tools to continue defending the organizational culture that has made us a reference in the markets where we operate” Manuel García Greenalia’s CEO stated.
In line with the provisions of the European Green Deal, Greenalia reflects in its Green Book its firm commitment to sustainability ESG principles. Thus, within the Environmental scope the company establishes its biodiversity, climate action, circular economy and water policies. With regards to the Social ESG perspective, talent management, human rights, equality, diversity and inclusion, together with occupational safety and health and CSR, are some of the main policy drivers. Transparency and communications, Compliance, Risk Management and Anti-Corruption measures are the focus of the Governance scope.
Environmental strategy for the energy transition
With sustainable energy development as a basis, Greenalia’s commitment to the environment is unequivocal, a policy that pivots on four axes: biodiversity, climate action, circular economy and water.
In this framework, respect for biodiversity and ecosystems has led the company to apply a preventive approach that minimizes the possible impacts of new infrastructures as much as possible. The precautionary principle has therefore been incorporated into all evaluations of new infrastructure projects. Impact compensation and the restoration of natural capital are the maxims to follow in cases where the impact is unavoidable.
With the aim of promoting participation in the fight against climate change, the decarbonization of the business model is encouraged, with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining the objective of remaining a carbon neutral company since it first reached neutrality in 2019.
Following the EU’s Green Deal, Greenalia aligns with the multi-R concept (rethinking, redesigning, re-opening, repairing, redistributing, reducing, reusing, recycling and recovering energy). To this end, the selective collection of waste generated in the different operations of the company is promoted, so that an optimal treatment of them can be made. It encourages the use of non-renewable natural resources and all processes are digitized to avoid the use of material resources.
Finally, and with regards to the use of water, reuse is advocated through the continuous improvement of processes and collection systems are optimized so that they do not alter the environment.
Constant dialogue with the environment
In Greenalia, the social impact is projected both among those who are part of the team, with the creation of safe and inclusive work environments, and with the communities where it operates, for which a permanent contact and dialogue is established with the different community stakeholders.
The incorporation and promotion of talent, as well as the creation of inspiring and safe work environments are basic principles in terms of human resources, as well as work for equality and social inclusion and respect for diversity, areas for which it has its own strategy since last year.
In CSR terms, the creation of the Greenalia’s Foundation for the Energy Transition is an important instrument to channel social policies, a vehicle that highlights the promotion of projects that contribute to greater social cohesion, the promotion of corporate volunteering and rural social and labor development through the different collaborations with institutions or organizations in the local environment.
Code of Conduct and Good Governance
Advancing in the consolidation of its Compliance Program, the governance section of the Greenbook advances in the company’s transparency policy, reinforcing the information processes -internal and external- of its different actions. In the same way, a section is developed aimed at good corporate conduct, detailed in full in the Code of Ethics, which establishes the implementation of the Ethics & Compliance Channel. An instrument by which both our own staff and our suppliers can communicate any incident, abuse or breach of the Code of Ethics that governs this business project.
Finally, in line with the strong commitment to stakeholders, the development of a risk diagnosis and monitoring system is marked, so that they have information and guarantees of the stability of business projects.
With the whole package of measures and objectives set out in both documents, which are intrinsically linked, Greenalia advances in its corporate governance policies in the same way as it does with its pipeline.
