Greenalia joins the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB)

  • With this adhesion, the renewable energy company takes another step forward in its commitment to the environment and the protection of ecosystems

The company Greenalia has joined the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB) and the Pact for Biodiversity and Natural Capital. With this signature, the company recognises and supports the Kunming Global Framework and its mission to take urgent action by 2030 to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

Greenalia, as a signatory of the UN Global Compact against climate change and member of The Climate Pledge platform, joining the IEEB is a further step in the company’s commitment to the conservation and recovery of biodiversity, an objective included transversally in the Sustainability Plan (ESG). In this way, a preventive approach is applied to minimise the impact of new infrastructures on biodiversity, taking into account their entire life cycle. To this end, environmental guidelines are developed for each type of project, thus adapting each asset to the surrounding ecosystem.

In addition, the Green Book, which forms part of Greenalia’s corporate policy, includes a formal commitment to protect biodiversity and a specific intention to avoid and mitigate any impact, under the responsibility of the Board of Directors, reflecting the importance given internally to this commitment.

To this end, among other actions, flora and fauna are monitored, especially protected and vulnerable species, and silvicultural treatments are established to minimise the risk of forest fires and restoration with native species.

The IEEB is a public-private collaboration platform that seeks to bring the business sector together to improve and maintain biodiversity and natural capital. It is aimed at business entities that want to learn about, explore opportunities, advance and show their commitment to nature conservation.

IEEB https://ieeb.fundacion-biodiversidad.es/ is part of the European Business and Biodiversity Platform and the Global Business and Biodiversity Alliance.
