Greenalia S.A., an independent renewable energy generation company based in Galicia, has successfully completed the placement of its first Green Bond in the Nordic market, for a total amount of €50 million.
This transaction is a pioneer in the Spanish debt markets, as it was structured through the exchange of €30.7 million of existing bonds issued on the MARF (Alternative Fixed-Income Market) and the raising of €19.3 million from new national and international institutional investors.
The issuance, rated as Investment Grade by EthiFinance, has a 5-year maturity and allows the amount issued to be increased up to €70 million.
With this operation, Greenalia takes another step in its strategy to diversify funding sources and strengthens its presence in European capital markets, expanding its investor base and consolidating its credit profile in the sustainable finance segment.
The bond was issued in accordance with Nordic fixed-income market regulations, enabling the company to optimize its financial structure and continue driving the development of its renewable project portfolio in Spain and the United States.
Global coordinators and placement agents for the transaction were Solventis S.V. and Clarksons Securities Inc., while PKF Attest acted as bookrunner.
This bond, the fifth Green Bond issued by the company since 2017, achieved the highest evaluation scale (Best Practice) from EthiFinance, an ESG Rating Agency that provided the Second Party Opinion (SPO), analyzing the Framework and its alignment with ICMA Green Bond Principles. The conclusion was that the Framework is consistent with Greenalia’s business and sustainability strategy. Additionally, Greenalia obtained an ESG rating from Clarity, scoring above average in all areas.
“This operation is a major milestone for Greenalia, as we access the Nordic bond market for the first time, recognized for its depth and appetite for sustainable issuances. The
confidence of international investors reinforces our strategy and commitment to the energy transition,” said Antonio Fernández-Montells, CFO of the company.
