Greenalia joins Gran Canaria’s basketball club “Suma Project” and will sponsor training scholarships for people with disabilities

• The renewable energy company and the club have signed a collaboration agreement through which the energy producer will cover the costs of 38 scholarships for children with disabilities to facilitate access to sports
• This initiative, part of Greenalia’s Sustainability Plan, is based on the social inclusion of people with disabilities through sport
• The company reinforces its commitment to the Canary Islands community, where it is developing offshore wind projects

The renewable energy producer, Greenalia, has signed an agreement with the Gran Canaria Basketball Club, whereby it undertakes to cover a total of 38 training scholarships for children with disabilities. In this way, the company will take care of all the expenses derived from all its sports activities.

This has been ratified today in the agreement signed by Greenalia’s Sustainability and Corporate Development Director, Beatriz Mato, and Sitapha Savané, the President of Gran Canaria’s Baketball Club, in a ceremony held at the Gran Canaria Arena just minutes before the club’s players started their training.

With this scholarship package, Greenalia adheres to the Suma Project launched by Gran Canaria’s Basketball Club through which activities are carried out with this group such as campuses, clinics, or social projects. Educational talks are also being delivered in different educational centers to generate awareness of the needs of people with disabilities and promote integration.

For Greenalia, explained Ms. Mato, “it is a pleasure to join an initiative such as the Suma Project. Its values and those practiced by the Club are totally shared by us as a company. Values such as companionship, the spirit of sacrifice, inclusion, and fair play, so deeply rooted in the day-to-day work of this entity are the cornerstones of our Corporate Policy“.

The signing of this agreement is another example of Greenalia’s commitment to the Canary Islands community, an area where the company has been working for years to develop offshore wind projects, which will have a very positive impact on the industry of the archipelago and on the decarbonization process.

For Gran Canaria’s Basketball Club, it is a pleasure to join paths with Greenalia, a producer of energy exclusively with renewable technologies and that, therefore, goes hand in hand with the social commitment that has acquired, especially in the present course, the Claretian Entity. In this way, the Gran Canarian club adds to its family of sponsors a great member that, through the Suma Project, will collaborate actively with the youngest, and not so young, of the Claretian structure.

About the Club

The Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria is a sports limited company that counts with the participation of its team in the professional league ACB ENDESA. Founded in 1963 within the Claret School, it is the reference club of the island. The more than 300 children with different disabilities that make up the Suma Project achieve social integration through sports. Within this Project, in addition to the different activities, they participate in the Basketball Without Limits League promoted by the Canary Basketball Federation.
