Greenalia Biomass Supply (hereinafter, GBS) has been selected, with its CAPTABIOFOREST 4.0 project, as a beneficiary of the first call of the Empleaverde+ programme, an initiative of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
This selection will allow the company to promote an innovative project that enhances employability and contributes to the consolidation of the transition to a green and digital model. The project will facilitate the adaptation of the workforce to the structural changes that both transformations require, and GBS will continue to reaffirm its commitment to the territory, sustainability and the creation of green jobs.
With a total budget of 29.7 million euros, the call has selected a total of 64 projects at the national level with the aim of improving training and employability in strategic sectors of the ecological transition. In the case of GBS, the selected project will focus on improving the training of 100 forestry workers in the management and collection of biomass in an environment that stands out for its high mechanization and digitalization of tasks, guaranteeing sustainability and promoting the employability of people living in rural areas of the four Galician provinces.
“The support of Empleaverde+ will allow us to advance in our mission to maximize the positive impact of our biomass business, promoting new job opportunities locally and strengthening training in key sectors for a more sustainable future in the region,” said Noelia Pedrouzo, HR Director at GBS.
The project, valued at €500,000, will receive 60% of the funds necessary for its execution through the Empleaverde+ Programme. As a clearly sectoral initiative, GBS had the collaboration of the Galician Wood & Design Cluster for the management and design of the project.
A PROJECT FOR GREEN JOBS AND SUSTAINABILITY
The GBS project will be developed within the framework of line 1 of the call: “Training for the acquisition or improvement of skills for green employment.”
Through this initiative, it is expected to train 100 people (84 in the workforce and 16 in the employment exchange) promoting specialization in key sectoral skills, such as training in the use of highly digitized equipment for biomass treatment. In addition, resources are channelled to promote the ecological and energy transition, and facilitate access to the labour market for strategic talent groups in need.
ADDING VALUE TO THE SECTOR
The GBS project will contribute directly to the transformative axes identified in the study “Employment and ecological transition”, published by the Biodiversity Foundation and the Spanish Office for Climate Change in 2023. In this sense, the company will contribute its experience in the end-to-end value chain of biomass, promoting the development of its circular business, the reduction of emissions, the fight for the integral sustainability of the business model and its firm is committed to the development of the local communities where it operates.
“The energy transition is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for innovation and the generation of quality employment. With this project, we want to contribute our knowledge and capacity for action to make this transformation a reality,” added Gonzalo López, GBS Director.
This project is co-financed by the ESF+ through the Empleaverde+ Programme of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which reinforces GBS’s commitment to the development of sustainable solutions that have a positive impact on the economy and the environment.
This milestone represents a new boost for Greenalia, which reinforces its role as a benchmark in sustainability and green employment in Galicia, Spain and the United States. The company will continue to be committed to initiatives that promote economic growth in balance with the environment and social welfare.
