30 MW Suime windfarm begins public exhibition phase in Spain

• With this new project, Greenalia advances in the development of its Wind Pipeline in Spain
• The facility, planned in Rodeiro, Pontevedra, Galicia, foresees over 109,000 MWh/year production, the equivalent of the energy consumption from renewable sources of more than 22,000 families

Greenalia continues the permitting process of its Wind Projects within its European pipeline. Today, a new Wind Farm, Suime, planned in the town of Rodeiro (Pontevedra, Galicia), begins public exhibition phase, after its publication in the Official Gazette (DOG).

The 30 MW Project contemplates the installation of six (5 MW) wind turbines, with 102.5 meters of hub height and 145 meters of rotor diameter. An estimated annual production of 109,434 MWh, equivalent to the renewable energy consumption of more than 22,000 families. Likewise, the commissioning of this facility, with a 30 million euros estimated investment, will avoid the consumption of almost 9,000 tons of oil.

For project placement, the most environmentally friendly alternative has been selected. Thus, it is located outside the protected areas included in the Natura 2000 Network, also apart from Natural Reserve, National Park, Natural Monument, Protected Wetland, Protected Landscape or Natural Area of Local Interest (ENIL) zones. The project is also outside the scope of influence of international protection figures (Biosphere Reserves, Ramsar Convention Wetlands, UNESCO World Geoparks). With the same philosophy of environmental protection, it has excluded the Important Areas for the Conservation of Birds and Biodiversity (IBA).

During the preliminary study phase, no singular trees or singular formations included in the Catalogue have been located and it is not located on any point of geological interest in Rodeiro Municipality or others adjacent.

After the archaeological surveys and the study of cultural heritage, it is concluded that no element belonging to it is affected and therefore it is compatible with the environment. To this end, a series of preventive and corrective measures have been included that minimize potential enviromental impacts.

With regard to the existing flora in the area, the report states that, for the most part, they are non-priority habitats, while a restoration plan is included at the end of the construction phase. In this way, the affected surfaces will be reconditioned and revegetated.
