Greenalia supports Básquet Coruña in its scholarship program for young people at risk of exclusion

• The renewable-energy production company has signed an agreement with the sports club, through which it will cover the costs of sports training for twenty at-risk young people
• This initiative comes as part of the company’s CSR policy, through which it has partnered with various programs providing socio-educational support to young people in the regions in which it operates or plans to launch projects

The Greenalia company will join forces with the Básquet Coruña basketball club as part of its social-action plan, for which the company will provide twenty training scholarships aimed at young people at risk of social exclusion. Through this initiative, the renewable-energy producer will pay this A Coruña club the training costs (enrolment, equipment and fees) for this student.

With this grant, as established in the agreement, Greenalia hopes to do its part to support socio-educational and integration plans for at-risk families. As such, the company continues to support initiatives as part of its annual CSR plan, through which the company supports the development of inclusive actions in the environments in which it operates.

The director of corporate development and sustainability, Beatriz Mato, highlights the role of sport in efforts to ensure social integration “through the values of effort, companionship and teamwork it conveys and which are so vital for people’s daily lives”.

Greenalia continues to offer its firm support dedicated to struggling families, particularly during the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. This school year, more than 600 grants have been awarded for school supplies to support families in difficulty – a program carried out in partnership with the municipalities in which Greenalia has launched projects. As part of the CSR plan, the company has also partnered with Cáritas for the collection of toys for its Christmas campaign and in its Educa program, to which nine laptops were donated. Now, the company wants to go further, providing access to sport for young people in difficulty.

For their part, Básquet Coruña has thanked Greenalia for its work and strong values in taking over the baton from the Emalcsa Foundation, with a contribution that will “allow Básquet Coruña to continue in this important social-integration work launched three years ago, through which boys and girls at risk of social exclusion may continue to practice their favorite sport, for free”.

Básquet Coruña, founded in 1996, is the leading club across the city and its region, with the largest pool of young players in Galicia (558 licenses registered in the Galician Basketball Federation, with 41 teams, and 224 children practicing the sport through seven basketball schools in the 2019-2020 season). Throughout each season, the club carries out a wide range of initiatives to promote basketball, involving more than 2,000 young people.
