Greenalia advances its pipeline development in Spain with a new 30 MW wind project, Campos Vellos, already in public exhibition phase

  • With this facility in the North West of Spain in the Ourense Municipalities of Beariz and Boborás, the company takes another step in its business development in the Iberian Peninsula
  • With over 30 million euros investment, the Wind Farm will generate renewable energy to supply more than 25,000 families

The renewable energy producer Greenalia is advancing in the processing of its wind projects within its European pipeline. Thus, after the publication today in the DOG (Galician Official Gazette), Campos Vellos Wind Farm, planned between the Galician towns of Beariz and Boborás, begins the public exhibition phase.

The 30 MW project contemplates the installation of 6 wind turbines with a 5MW unit power, 102.5 meters of hub height and 145 of rotor diameter. Its annual production is estimated in 121,567 MWh, the equivalent to the energy consumption from renewable sources of more than 25,000 families.  Likewise, the commissioning of this facility will avoid the consumption of almost 9,000 tons of oil.

The Wind Farm is located in an area of top wind resource, and avoids the lands included in the Natura 2000 Network as well as the Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs). It has also been separated from the Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and, as far as the areas included in the Galician catalogue of wet lands are concerned, there is none present in the area of influence of the Wind Farm. After the different studies, no special ornithological interest has been detected either. In any case, the environmental monitoring plan contemplates continuous lookout in case any new indicator is detected that makes it necessary to incorporate new specific measure/s.

After the heritage studies, no element of cultural interest or that is part of the heritage has been inventoried, neither in the area of action nor in its vicinity. According to the Impact Assessment on Cultural Heritage, it should be noted that this project has been reviewed and rethought significantly during the preliminary project phase so that several wind turbine positions have been modified to avoid potential impacts on archaeological assets, so that with the current project no affectations are foreseen.

Regarding the flora, after the project execution phase, a restoration to recover the area of action will take place. These tasks will be carried out, when possible, in parallel with the progress of the construction work so that the landscape integration is carried out as soon as possible. With regards to the visual impact, the orography of the terrain, together with the design of the installation, allow us to conclude that we are facing a low level impact.

Taking these factors into account and the development of the preventive and corrective measures provided in the project, the implementation of the Campos Vellos Wind Farm is considered compatible with the environment.
